Norbert “Red” H. Marthaler, 87, Sartell

Paul in St. Cloud for Red Marthaler who died Monday at the St. Cloud Hospital. The Rev. LeRoy Scheierl will officiate. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Thursday at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud and 1 hour prior to services Friday at the church in St. Cloud. St. Paul’s parish prayers will be at 6 pm Thursday.Red was born in Sauk Centre to Nicholas & Louisa (Deters) Marthaler. He served his country in the United States Army. Red owned and operated Marthaler Trucking for several years. He married Yvonne Peterson on January 30, 1960 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. Red was the Vice President of the Egg Division at Jack Frost Company until 1976. He was the President of Lake Country Eggs in Rice until 1992 and he finished his career at Premier School Agenda retiring in 2012. He is a member of the Church of St. Paul in St. Cloud where he was active as an usher and volunteer. Red spent time as a cub master and scout master with Pack 104 and troop 107 in Boy Scouts. Red was an avid WWI and WWII history buff. He enjoyed spending time prairie dog hunting out west and taking family trips to California to visit his sister. His family was the most important part of his life. He adored his grandchildren and always attended their sporting events. Because of the many miles he traveled, Red often saw a familiar face to share conversations with. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.Survivors include his wife Yvonne of Sartell; children, Jeff (Dena) of Holdingford; Sharon (Tom) Herzog of Plymouth; Mary (Jack) Doble of St. Cloud; Mark (Kathryn) of Bloomington; Joe (Peg) of Sartell; Kent (Deanna) of Nisswa; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Bernard, Alice Unger, Evelyn Dunsmore, Rita Toenies, Florence Marthaler, and Sr. Petronelle Marthaler.In lieu of flowers memorial preferred to Christ the King Retreat Center. Work continues on McMillan Street, Ryan's Road

During this phase, Avalon School of Cosmetology, Classy and Sassy and ProfessioNail will be accessible from the north via McMillan Street/Ryan’s Road/Stower Drive. Malters, Shepherd & Von Holtum and Salon Seven will be accessible from the driveway on the west side of their building off of Oxford Street. Casey’s General Store will remain accessible from the south via the Oxford Street entrance. This phase is estimated to take approximately 20 working days, weather pending.Work on the traffic signal at the McMillan Street and Oxford Street intersection is expected to begin the week of Sept. 4. Drivers should watch for changes in signal operations while the signals are being updated. Signals will be temporarily switched to four-way flashing red for periods of time. The signals will also be temporarily turned off and replaced with four-way stop signs at other times during the upgrades.Construction of the Ryan’s Road sidewalk is expected to start during the week of Sept. 11. Businesses along Ryan’s Road will be notified either in person or via newsletter closer to the actual dates of the sidewalk construction.The project contract was awarded to Duininck Inc. of Prinsburg, while Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH) was hired by the city of Worthington as the engineering consultant to oversee the construction of the project. The project has a final completion date of Nov. 3. (Daily Globe)
